Getting started in SL can be quite a challenge if you have 0 Lindens and not sure where to begin. The current trend in SL is to have a bento mesh body and mesh head. This can cost a pretty penny and most newbies, (and others) are not certain that paying real money is worth the cost of looking good in pixels. This blog is about freebies, group gifts and help for new SL residents, Newbies or Noobs are they are called too. I hope that this will help the older SL residents that would like to try out mesh.
I have found a couple of freebie places in SL that are perfect for newbies who are wanting to sort out their avatars with 0 Lindens. New Resident Island is for the classic avis, and here you can get a good start. Here is a layout of the Island and all they offer.
Ajuda Brazil SL has everything you need to get started in SL, with a newer feel. Clothing, shoes, hair, full avatars etc. I stumbled along this sim when trying to assist a new SL resident that wanted to sort out his avi. Personally I find this a daunting task, and it takes me hours, (unlike my bestie Gina who has the knack for finding great deals and is able to take a new avi from zero to hero quickly.)
If you are wanting to jump straight into mesh, Atamura has free Men’s and Women’s Mesh Bodies, including a mesh head at Ajuda Brazil SL;.this is a really generous gift. The woman’s mesh body is called Valentina, and Maitreya clothing seems to fit nicely. The men’s mesh gift is called Max. Please don’t arrive there naked cause you will get banned.

If you are able to scrounge 50$L together you can join the Altamura Group and they have quite a few group gifts scattered around the shop, then you will have a few mesh bodies and heads to play with, it’s well worth joining the group.
